What to Wear

When it comes to What to Wear for your session that could be a little daunting. Here are some tips I’ve gathered!

1. Coordinate but that doesn’t mean you need to all wear the same thing. Matchy-match isn’t always a good thing!

Pull colors from one outfit to mix and match to coordinate everyone’s outfits. Pattern’s are good in Moderation- Don’t give everyone a different pattern; pick one and pull everyone else outfit from there.

2. Accessorize

Use pieces like headbands, scarves, necklaces, jackets, bowties to not only bring in pops of color or patterns but also show personality of the individual wearing it. Just don’t get carried away! Create different layers & textures add interests. This also mean’s remove any accessories (like watches, jewelry) which don’t compliment your session.

Bonus to accessorize you can bring different options and switch them up during the session to give you different looks without a lot of wardrobe changes.

3. Think about your session location (If it’s on-location) and what you want to express from your pictures

Is it grassy?  A beach scene? Think flowy, light, barefoot or sandals.  Lots of fall foliage & rocky terrain? Maybe you don’t want to wear stilettos but go with cute flats.

4. Shoe’s do matter!

I’m a shoe person in my opinion they can make or break it

5. Where are you going to be hanging/displaying the images.

Example if it’s a Christmas card some people want a more wintery or holiday feel. If your going to hang it in your living room, you might want it to follow you color or décor.

6. Try to stay timeless.

These are going to be around for a very long time so make sure you aren’t just following a trend or fade.

7. Make sure your children and YOU are comfortable.

Nothing worse then having a kid attempt to get their picture taken when they are unhappy, don’t like the way the clothes fit and are pulling and tugging on them.

Other tips:

Fresh coat of paint on your nails, you can see chips and that doesn’t look very good

NO large logo’s (NIKE, GAP, AE etc), Characters, or pictures on you/your children’s clothing choices.

Try to prevent fresh cuts. If you or your child needs to visit the salon for hair cut try to get it done at least the week before so it’s  looks a bit more natural.

Pinterest is also a great resource so check out some different boards
